För fjärde året i rad har vi glädjen att välkomna Dr Christine Braehler som är psykolog , KBT terapeut och forskare och handledare inom Compassion Focused Therapy  och lärare i Mindful Self-Compassion Programme. Dr Braehler kommer under 2 dagar erbjuda dels ett teoretiskt ramverk för self-compassion, dels guidade övningar för hur man kan använda self-compassion både för egen del som terapeut, och för klienter i det psykoterapeutiska arbetet.  Undervisningen sker på engelska.

At the completion of this 2-day workshop, participants should be able to:

Day 1

  • describe the theory and research supporting compassion-based approaches
  • relate to difficult emotions with self-compassion rather than self-criticism
  • transform caregiver fatigue into compassion

Day 2

  • understand the theory and research behind resistances to compassion
  • apply therapeutic techniques to bring compassion to self-criticism
  • teach simple self-compassion practices to patients, students, or clients

Compassion-based approaches to psychotherapy
What we resist, persists. What we feel, we can heal.

When we experience emotional pain we usually tend to resist our experience in some way: we fight it, try to flee from it or we freeze, which only serves to increase our pain. Individuals who have experienced little affection or even threats from early attachment figures commonly react with shame and harsh self-criticism to emotional pain. Shame and self-criticism have been found to be at the core of many psychological disorders. They block our capacities for emotion regulation and recovery. To effectively regulate difficult emotions we require feelings of safeness and social connectedness, which originate in our ability to give and receive care.

Research shows that learning to turn towards our suffering and to relate to it with the same warmth, understanding and friendliness we might offer to a loved one helps to improve our emotional and physical well-being significantly and is of benefit to individuals with complex psychological disorders. This is self-compassion. Self-compassion is a skill that can be learned by anyone through simple techniques even when we have experienced little affection from others. Research suggests that self-compassion is a transdiagnostic and transtheoretical mechanism of change in psychotherapy and in mindfulness training. In recent years methods have been developed to explicitly train compassion for ourselves and for others.

Dr Christine Brähler is a clinical psychologist, who maintains a private practice in Munich, Germany. She is honorary lecturer at the University of Glasgow, UK, and Faculty Member of the Mindfulness Based Professional Training Institute at the University of California, San Diego, US. . She is an official trainer in Compassion Focused Therapy developed by Paul Gilbert ( and a certified teacher trainer of the Mindful Self-Compassion Programme developed by Christopher Germer & Kristin Neff ( She has published the first randomized controlled trial of Compassion Focused Therapy focusing on complex psychological disorders. Having benefited from mindfulness and compassion practice in her life she is passionate about teaching mindful self-compassion for personal development and helping people with mental health problems to overcome resistances to developing compassion.
